Talking Points for Monday
March is violence prevention month. March will be a time to identify the different types of violence that impacts our lives and how we can stop the violence and prevent more harm from taking place.
During advisory in March, we will discussing where we live, work, study and play and what types of challenges and problems we are facing.
We will see how our school-wide expectations — Be Safe | Be Responsible | Be Respectful — are connected to building and strengthening a safe and caring community.
In advisory this week, we are going to focus on identifying what we like about our community and how we are connected to each other through our community.
For opening round, ask:
- What is a community?
- What makes a community a community?
Have students share their responses and ideas.
By Wednesday:
Describe how where you live, work, study and play is connected:
- What is one thing you like about Oakland?
- What is one thing you like about the Fruitvale District?
- What is one thing you like about United for Success Academy, your school?
